INTERVIEW: Historians John and Janet Shepherd on their new book, 1950s Childhood
How wonderfully appropriate that a book titled 1950s Childhood has been written by a couple called… Janet and John. Anyone who remembers the learn-to-read series will know what I mean - and anyone who remembers the Janet and John books might also remember dip-pens, Dinky toys, spam fritters, early television sets or even, heaven forbid, being caned.
